Most of my colleagues know me as a patent attorney because I spent the first two decades of my career focused on the business of intellectual property for large corporations, including time with the technology transfer office (TTO) of the federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). Over the years, my employers allowed me to maintain a part-time law practice to take on causes of personal interest and this is how I came to secure a not guilty verdict in my first criminal case, an attempted murder trial; reverse the Social Security Administration denying my client permanent disability benefits; and helping a small, startup business owner defend and counterattack against a much larger company improperly asserting its intellectual property rights.
